Aki Himanen - Shifting Through the Clouds

Aki Himanen is a Finnish artist based in Helsinki. As well as a fine trumpet player he's also a music producer, audio engineer and early electronic music adopter with a fondness for fusing jazz and machines, either solo, on various multi-media projects or more regularly with fellow Finn Aleksi Kinnunen, with whom he as a more propulsive futuristic nu-jazz project.

On "Shifting Through The Clouds" he's aiming to move minds rather than hips. The trumpet rather than the focus is an evocative, ambiguous addition to the mesmerising inner and outward voyaging soundscape, conjuring up vague images of Oriental fever dreams and opium addled jazz greats.

If that wasn't enough the horn floats serenely over a wondrously detailed soundscape where wind agitated bells and chimes from long lost, overgrown temples provide a percussive skeleton on which he hangs ambient swathes and microdosed machine noise that transports the listener from their perceived surroundings to parallel dimensions where wonder and wisdom are the currency of choice.
