Alexis Delozanne is new ambient electronic producer on the block who has hit the ground running with a debut LP on the notable Shimmering Moods and a forthcoming release due for Whitelabrecs, from which this single was taken. He's currently on a mission to find the sweet spot between his natural world inspiration, rarefied ambient textures and more hands on guitar played layering, and he's off to a fine start.
"Illusion d'optique" starts life with a dub techno pulse that sounds like it drifted over the border from Berlin's murky club scene, but rather go into Basic Channel cliche it's joined by a sunnier modular motif that helps guide you through the rest of the track. Slowly but surely the ambient clouds drift in, the sound of our feathered friends suggest the studio window was left open on a warm night, distant percussion seemingly recorded through a neighbouring studio wall keeps the bass company, as more synth lines finally arrive to lift the mood despite the increasing presence of decayed machines.
There's a lot to process but ultimately this is a fine slice of patiently building, gently hypnotic, dub tickled ambient downtempo that will sound good for after the after party, as sleep tries to win the battle for domination with the still circulating party accessories.
I'm looking forward to the LP already.
