Coma Cadet - Eternal_Ephemeral (Self Release)

Details are thin on the ground, but the well named Coma Cadet is a new kid on the ethereal block, who hails from around America's Great Lakes, and who has a nice line in downtempo electronica that also hints at an acoustic upbringing before the machines won the battle for hit affections and studio supremacy. If the press shot is anything to go by then he's probably a local Halloween legend.

His debut EP released only last August was a fine statement of intent that covered a lot of ground in its five short tracks from the new age opener to inventive beat science, psychedelic back to the future folktronica, wistful, haunted pianotronics and ambient post rock. You should check it out, there's a versatility and quality that he's obviously been honing for a while before his assault on the public consciousness.

He's obviously got a couple of hard drives stashed away in the studio as well, the follow up single Eternal_Ephemeral dropped in the middle of December, and it's another impressive release. "Eternal" starts off slow with it's futuristic bird song refrain building in intensity, soon met by some light touch skittering beats and effected summer primed guitar until you've got the perfect summer in space soundtrack.

"Ephemeral" charts a similar if slightly more subdued course, with it's simple but sunny guitar tones floating over the ambient drift as the joyful, distant sound of playing children takes you back to more carefree days and a nagging, woozy reversed sound hints at one BBQ beer too many. Tune in and chill out.
