Coussi Coussa - Obscures Manoeuvres (Le Premier Jour du Soleil)

All I could find about Coussi Coussa is that they're a couple of French dudes: Valentin Féré & Antonin Faurel which, being as I like a bit of mystery and their music, isn't too much of a drama, although it leaves the blog post a little bit short of content.

So, straight to the music. "Obscures Manoeuvres" is their debut single and their first warning shot to the world that there they have an LP coming on French micro label, Le Premier Jour du Soleil which, if my school boy French isn't letting me down, is a lovely name for a label, and if this single is anything to go by, they're selecting their releases around that ethos.

A vintage drum machine rhythm sets a slow but jaunty tempo, and is quickly joined by a petite but perky bassline. They don't waste anytime either bringing in some mild psychedelic touches, nothing too existence contemplating, more like those first giggly moments thirty minutes after drinking your mushroom tea. That's almost enough on its own but hold tight, just wait for the carefree, vintage synth tones and solar powered guitar, both of which ooze summery simplicity, childhood holiday's at the beach and weekend ice creams in the park.

It's a warm, charming, kooky debut single and I look forward to hearing how the LP turns out.
