Ebi Soda have been floating around TSMM's blog and playlists since their debut about five years ago, and are another in a long line of UK jazz deviants who enjoy twisting the twentieth century's greatest art form into fresh new shapes, fit for modern purpose.
Hailing from Brighton on the south coast, they're a freaky *five piece consisting of Sam Schlich Davies on drums, Hari-Lee Evans plucking the bass, Louis Jenkins tinkling the keys, Conor Knight twanging his guitar and previously one man horn section VVilhelm on trombone.
They've also got a nice line in press shots.
*Update I've just read in the press release that a Dan Gray is also now a member of the group, but all that I can see is that he is a horn player - trumpet by the sound of the new single?

They're also a restless bunch with a constantly evolving sound from downtempo head nodders to uptempo hard to pin down fusions designed for underground nu-jazz clubs, adventurous DJs and live show finales.
"Bamboo" adds a phat 808 bass line straight out of your latest trap banger but anchoring a classic jazz licked chill-out start to the track with opiated electronics and horn echoes setting quite the laid back, late night smokers scene. It's not long though before the layers start to build. Out there synths float around the soundscape, instrumental hip hop refrains enter the picture to tighten the tracks form, and slowly but surely the free flowing jazz licks add some welcome consciousness raising thermals to help your thoughts ascend to a higher plain.
I'm looking forward to hearing what else the group have in store for 2025, we're sure as hell off to a fine cosmic jazz licked hip hop start.
