Elia Casu is an eclectic and nomadic musician from Italy. Initially self taught on guitar before obtaining a degree in jazz guitar, he's been a member of numerous, stylistically diverse groups and has appeared on over twenty albums, before moving to Peru and now Istanbul during which times he developed a career as a sound designer in media production. He's a busy boy.

This new single for Whirling Wolf is a fascinating, genuinely surprising fusion of multi-instrumental man and machine with stunning attention to detail that will reward the active or headphone listener.
Starting off innocently enough, with some muted drums, Casu doesn't take long to add an almost cartoon like guitar refrain that arrives simultaneously with the glitchy, painstakingly programmed percussion. Effected guitar then lends an ambient cushion to proceedings before precision placed sounds start to pepper the track with wondrous detailing that adds to the sonic riches, rather than clutters the soundscape.
On its own that would be enough for many producers, but at the halfway mark the track suddenly morphs into an uplifting slice of cinematic post-rock for a full fine minute, before reluctantly deconstructing itself layer by malfunctioning electronic layer. back into the ether It's a stunning tune from a producer that deserves more attention. Get with the Casu program, I for one am now following with interest.
