Ezra, is a psychologist and musician from Santiago in Chile with a cool line in tempo fluctuating underground, pleasingly raw house and techno. If that wasn't enough, he's also doing some good work, this latest single was made during an internship in a rehab centre for meth, cracks and opioids in a vulnerable area in Santiago, Chile. Good on him.
"Salvapantallas" kicks off with a distant, unhurried kick drum that slowly comes into hearing range, alongside some simple, bittersweet synth pads which could be melancholic or moving depending on which side of bed you got out of. The hi-hats are even later to the party but supply a twinkling light to the dusky vibe, even opening the curtains a bit to let in some warmer, spirit lifting tones to join the well layered fray. And so it proceeds, the simple synergistic synths looped into a hypnotic whole that will either encourage head down, eyes closed dance floor movement or sofa based regression therapy depending on your energy levels.
The lights are low, the vibe underground, the aesthetic lo-fi and the house ritualism real. I'm all in.
