Sounding like a Daily Mail headline or Faragian sound bite, the intriguingly named France, You're on Your Own are Liverpool based Mayan Jeroen and Ciaran Francis Dooley. Details are scant but apparently they actually quite like France, and they've got a fondness for hazy, half cut visuals and ambiguous messaging that they like to display in public places, probably to widespread bewilderment, so they're off to a promising start.
Apart from not taking themselves too seriously they've also got a nice line in folk fusion which nods to the past but is quite happy to have a look around other genres and move with the times if needs be; it is 2025 after all.
Their debut single was, "Church Roof", a microdosed drum (machine) and strum driven indie-folk pop sing a long with a sudden gig primed punk eruption. "Focus on Me"follows a similarly meandering path with a repeat of their affable, if not downright catchy vocal folk sway, this time augmented by a bit of cheeky autotune they've filched from the overproduced end of the top 40 which accentuates their irreverent, clever lyricism that is saying something, but not too earnestly.
Both singles are great, the lads have a seemingly natural crowd pleasing swagger, eyebrow raising lyricism and a nice twist to their sound. If this is them just getting started then I suggest you give them a follow to hear what happens next.
