Guinevere is an artist and singer songwriter whose music roams around the folk spectrum, with interests in theatre, performance and fine art, and increasingly the intersection of all of them.
"Unravels" poignant subject matter concerns a dear friend who took his own life, and it's a testament to Guinevere's spirit that such a tragedy turned out as positively as it did, although I guess it helped that the catalyst was a dream where these old friends were reunited to sing and dance care free by the ocean.
That magical scene certainly permeates the music start to finish. Guinevere's sweet vocals coast through the speakers on a dawn breeze, adding some freshness to the politely insistent guitar arpeggios that were kindly supplied by her similarly talented father. The song gains some added traction from the hand struck and shook percussion that solidifies in the latter stages to a 4/4 thump when the daydreamy pastoral folk vibes are joined by some sparse yet affecting piano that accentuates the philosophical rather than tragic air. And then, before you know it, the sun rises bringing with it early morning consciousness that gradually erases the subconscious constructs to leave this thankfully permanent, wistful yet ultimately life affirming tribute.
