Jack Goodman is a busy boy. As well as his forthcoming ambient works LP, from which this charmingly named "mudguts" single is taken from, he's also got a band project, runs a record label and is also a visual artist.
The new single certainly bodes well for December 27th's album release. Initially I thought that was an odd release date and worried that it would get lost in the Christmas madness, but if the single is anything to go by I wouldn't be surprised if its calming benefits extended to relieving gastrointestinal issues, in which case it could be arriving just in time to help a lot of people with their Xmas excess, and be a stroke of marketing genius, let's see.
The single is also one of those odd ambient tracks that I just warmed to instinctively without really knowing why. The sounds on the whole are warm but somewhat dull, not as in boring, but an opiated dullness that somehow just dissipates energy and stress. But on closer consideration what did it for me was the distant yet radiant noise that sounds like radiation affected cicadas, that pops up just before the minute mark only to disappear 40 seconds later. Sometimes it's the little things in life that set artists apart. Give him a follow it sounds like he's a force for ambient good and put December 27th in the diary.
