Jess Kerber originally hailed from Nashville and was brought into the world by musician parents, so it was always more likely that she'd pick up the guitar at 12 and start looking to the greats for inspiration as she developed her own brand of singer songwriting. Going to the Berklee College of Music to hone her craft didn't do her any harm either.

A gentle organ drone sets a mellow tone from the start, quickly joined by some unhurried, contemplative acoustic guitar to set an ambient folk course for this striking debut single, but just wait for that voice. Just like the guitar, the voice is intimately recorded and offers a direct line to Kerber's heart on the sleeve, blue eyed soulful tale of resolve battling self doubt, surely an obvious, but oft ignored, feeling for any new artist on the block. Halfway through she takes a quick time out to stretch out on guitar, display her obvious chops and add a bit of back country twang, before finishing her look within. It's an accomplished, beautifully crafted debut, so give her a follow, I sense good things ahead.
