KapTep & Brannan Lane - Music for Migraines (Ambient Cat)

Kaptep is an ambient project from Illinois based Derek Carter, who has obviously been dabbling with machine sounds for a while, but who only started infiltrating the public consciousness in 2021. His new project is a collaboration with the "old timer" Brannon Lane, who has been making solar powered ambient music from his Florida home for over twenty years now. They certainly seem to be bringing out the best of each other.

With Meta's recent move to hasten the post-truth apocalypse still bouncing around my brain, their hot off the press Music For Migraines LP couldn't have been better timed.

Music for Migraines, as you'd reasonably expect, tends toward the temple massaging, horizontal on the sofa and borderline ignorable side of ambient - just perfect. Pads are gentle, field recordings well positioned in the soundscape to remind you of the restorative joy of the outdoors, but at a level that won't encourage physical activity and the soundscape set to stun rather than fun.

Just in case the headache passes, which will quite possibly be the case, there are four remixes tapped onto the end which whilst very much ambient, add a bit of extra movement, some lower end frequencies and in the case of Dionisaf rerub even a deep ambient house riddim just in case you fancy getting some encouragement to peel yourself off the couch.
