Luzius Schuler is a young piano player from Bern in Switzerland with all the right influences, but who is intent on taking the sounds of this traditional instrument into more playful, rarefied realms via retro synth sounds and kooky arrangements.

His latest tune, "Pond" is an impressionist attempt to make the mundanity of life magical, and he's cracked it. That vintage electronic charm helps instantly transport the listener out of the here and now, and there is an almost childlike innocence, thankfully devoid of commercial considerations and still blissfully unaware of social expectation.
Wobbly warped electronics set a pleasingly hazy tone, tempered by a simple but sweet piano refrain, but it's not long before the track melts into more arcane, squelchy synth territory inhabited by doddery metronomic tones, all sorts of peyote and sun warped electronics, synth stabs right out of ' 87 and piano flourishes. It's a safe, happy space where mundanity and worldly angst are left at the door, now if I could just arrange permanent residence. Perhaps the forthcoming album will help?
