Markus Artved is a versatile Danish musician, composer and keen collaborator who can turn his hand to jazz, ambient, laid back alt-pop or contemporary theatre soundtracks, and there's not too many musician or producers that can say that.
On "Snefald", his latest single, he takes his experience camping outdoors in the winter and the undoubted beauty and snow muffled tranquility of the Nordic landscape he experienced as his starting point, aiming to recreate that rare experience in musical form.
Deciding soundscape improvisation was the way to go, he lays down a simple but beautifully serene piano line that he then threads through a sparkling array of tonal ambience that sounds like the low sun reflecting off fresh snow in a remote valley. Notes are gently elongated, at times augmented by the softest of pads. The track is a hypnotic minimal ambient treat; ideal for shining some light on the darker months, easing tired minds and giving hope on the greyest, wettest day.
