I really should make notes on how I discover artists as I can’t quite remember where I stumbled on Natalie Wildgoose, but what really matters I guess is that this London and North Yorkshire-based composer and artist is now on my radar.

An old soul trapped in a young singer songwriting body, she’s been releasing a slow but steady stream of songs since 2021, sometimes solo and if not with some accomplished support, that showcase her jazz able, folk inclined vocal prowess.
Her new release was realised after ditching the big bad city to reside on the climatically challenged, undeniably beautiful moors of North Yorkshire. There she toured her surroundings recording these intimate, pleasingly lo-fi folk songs to analogue tape on her grandfather’s old Akai reel-to-reel tape recorder, whilst playing a variety of stand up pianos whose time worn creakiness is well captured, adding to the intimate nature of these charming tales that variously muse on affairs of the heart or encourage people to go outside and spend more time in nature. It’s a delicate and delightful EP, and one for the readers that appreciated the recent Maxine Funke tip.
