Paper Ocean is German musician who's been releasing a steady stream of guitar led ethereal electronica since 2021. I like his vibe.
His latest single, "ambedo" is more of the same, and if it's not broken why fix it? Oddly for a track so peaceful it's inspired by Tokyo's energy, but rather than opting for a perhaps more suited house tempo, he's decided to look beyond the scurrying citizens, hurrying traffic and relentless capitalist money grab to soundtrack those odd moments of stillness amongst the madness. Think more of a commuter lost in a book on a train or an office worker sitting to savour their sandwich and escape the screen in a green space, and you'll get the idea.
The track starts with some welcome ambient drift to calm the nerves, the layer on layer of soothing tones laying the ground work for the unhurried introduction of a simple but soporific guitar refrain that provides a welcome acoustic element to the atmospheric haze. The track is an electroacoustic pleasure, which sounds right at home in the sunset serenading Slow Balearic Playlist, and don't forget to check out the rest of his catalogue if you like the vibe, you won't be disappointed.
