The Album Leaf has been around for a while now, which means I have too I guess! It's been interesting to hear this ex-rocker's raw glitchy electroacoustics evolve over the years into the accomplished, more polished cinematic electronica of today.
He's already had a busy 2024 with a slew of shorter collaborations, remixes and live EPs, and now this new single, "Rotations" has appeared without too much fanfare or explanation, but when you've reached a certain level then hectic press campaigns aren't quite as essential, and maybe even more enticing to some.
The track is trademark, full bodied, luxuriant electronica this time in a soundclash with some hypnotic tonal minimalism, the synthesized swathes soon joined by a mantric motif that is so mesmerising that it's not until its second half augmentation that you actually blink and realise that two minutes of your life have just passed and you haven't even checked your phone app notifications. Couple that with a pleasing and painstakingly evolving video of glacially rotating pixelated psychedelia and it's quite the audio visual tonic.
