The Color Forty Nine - We Send Satellites

The Slow Music Movement

Hailing from the blue skies and dusty highways of San Diego, The Color Forty Nine are four old mates that have been around a musical block or two, and learnt even more instruments on the way. Phil Beaumont is the main vocalist & ukulele specialist, Jason Hooper on bass and backing vocals, Scott Mercado entrusted with percussion and Matt Resovich supplying violin, synths as well as also chipping in with some backing vocals. As you can imagine they know what they're doing and if "We Send Satellites" is anything to go by then the forthcoming LP will be further testament to that.

The new single, rather like San Diego I imagine, has a border town approach to it, a song where genres and cultures collide and are encouraged to get on. On cursory inspection it's a trait that pervades their previous output too, as sun baked ambling Americana meets unhurried country, classic vibes hang out with the outsiders and stoned indie-rock mingles with microdosed alt-folk tales.

If that sounds like a lot then don't sweat it, there's method to their madness, starting with an unhurried approach, not just to composition, but also tempo and with those average temperatures who can blame them? It has to be said there's also a bit of the Lou Reed to the new single with it's lilting rhythm, well observed, wistful, wise/weary (delete as applicable or choose both) lyrics, and that's certainly no bad thing?

Hop on board the bus with the new single and don't get off until the album appears over that rocky sun baked horizon at the end of the month.
