Urhosson - Bed (Pocket Echos)

I mentioned the other week how I keep stumbling across Finnish composers and what would you know? Say hello to Urhosson from Helsinki.

He's only been releasing music for a couple of years, but has obviously been dabbling for a while if his wall of studio gear is anything to go by, not to mention the amount of releases he's put out in such a short space of time - five LPs and twelve EPs is a lot, too much really for your average curator or mortal to take in, and I guess could be attributed to an eagerness to get going, and hard drive housekeeping.

As you'd imagine it's a pretty disparate collection of music, lacking a touch of focus at times, which could loosely be described as ambient/cinematic electronica, although I caught some beats on a couple of tracks during my quick research. I hope that doesn't sound too critical as there is a hell of a lot of good going on here, including the track that really jumped out at me "Bed" from his Soliloquy LP.

He was obviously going through a classical phase at the time, with the quivering, emotional strings - which sound live (although his studio and the lack of credits suggest otherwise) slicing through a warm bubbling subterranean synthscape with a neoclassical grace and class. It shows, as do numerous tracks, real promise and marks him out as one to keep an eye on.
